JON MCDONELL, Dr. Ac
Doctor of Acupuncture
Herbalist
Reiki Practitioner

Hey there, I’m Jon. If you’re just discovering me now, you’re meeting me at a very different stage in my practice. I’ve been at this for a decade now, not only practicing Chinese Medicine, but living it. I’ve had the opportunity to witness the amazing benefits these modalities have to offer, not only through my patients’ experiences, but also through the lens of my own body. My relationship with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is deeply personal, and it has been a rock for me as I’ve navigated an adult diagnosis of Autism and ADHD.

These past few years, I’ve been especially focused on a couple of key areas in my continuing education:

  • Shadow Work, specifically through the lens of Chinese Medicine and the Five Phase cycle

  • Fascia and its overlap with the meridian system in Acupuncture

I’d argue that these two areas are among the most powerful and life-changing systems I’ve worked with in my 10 years of practice so far.

------

Jon graduated from the Grant MacEwan Acupuncture program in 2016. At this point in his practice he views himself as less of a "healer" and more of a "guide." While Jon has an extensive toolkit to help people improve their quality of life, he believes in helping patients take charge of their own health by encouraging them to listen to their bodies. The modalities Chinese Medicine offers are very powerful – but true healing happens when you begin to incorporate healthy lifestyle changes, and healthy ways of thinking outside of the treatment room.

He strives to create a comfortable and relaxed environment in the treatment room — especially for those people who are feeling nervous about needles. You can expect constant communication throughout the entire process. Your comfort comes first.

Jon's areas of interest include cisgender and transgender men's and women's health, mental health and stress management, ADHD support, sleep, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, urogenital disorders, and digestive health/gastrointestinal disorders; He is constantly improving his skills in these areas through self-study and continuing education.

These past few years Jon has also become well known in the clinic for his success in the treatment of Plantar Fasciitis related foot/heel pain.

Jon has access to a full a compounding herbal pharmacy with over 100 individual Chinese Herbal granules which can be tailored to your specific needs. This is a rare resource here in Edmonton Alberta and Jon is excited to introduce you all to this powerful tool.

Jon strives to create a safe space for the LGBT+ community here at the clinic in West Edmonton. He is passionate about carving out a place where communities that are too often neglected by the healthcare system can seek treatment without fear of judgment or bias.

From 2019-2023 Jon taught Foundations of Chinese Medicine in the Acupuncture Program at Grant MacEwan University.

Jon has also started a podcast called "Sticking Points" which you can find in the menu above.
